KYBELLA

Kybella is a medication used for double chin reduction. The active ingredient in Kybella is deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body.

Our liver produces the Bile acid which is then changed into deoxycholic acid in the intestines. Kybella disrupts the fat cell membranes, causing them to rupture and get permanently eliminated by the body.

Skin does not become lax after treatment with Kybella, but adopts the new contour of the neck.

Most patients only need 2-4 Kybella treatments. Treatments are scheduled every 4-8 weeks. Kybella should be injected by a trained physician.

The amount of medication is determined by the amount of fat that should be treated in the chin area. Very small areas of chin fat may require only one vial of Kybella (2cc of product), while large chins may require up to five vials (10cc of product).

The procedure takes about 10 minutes and is done under local numbing.

Recovery following Kybella treatment depends on the patient. Most patients will have some burning or stinging for 30 minutes to a few hours, and may have redness for a few days. Other post treatment reactions include bruising, moderate swelling for 1-2 weeks which is commonly experienced and generally is less extensive with subsequent treatments. The treated area may feel firm for several days to weeks. It may be tender to touch for several days to weeks but is not typically severe enough to require prescription strength medication. Numbness of the treatment area is also common and can last up to 4-6 weeks.

The result of Kybella treatment are permanent, however, a large increase in weight can cause the area to appear fuller again. Call us to arrange your complimentary consultation.
