THIN/UNEVEN LIPS
Full and plump lips have been associated with beauty since ancient times. Young and beautiful lips create a major focal attraction point on the face. Unfortunately, as we age
the facial and lip fat diminishes and the skin inner layer, called the dermis, begins to thin. Collagen production gradually slows down, resulting in decreasing of the skin firmness. All these
changes make the lips thinner and wrinkly, forming so called “smoker’s lines”.
Lip enhancement and correction has a long history. Some surgeons tried to use paraffin injection into the lips in 1900s. Liquid silicone injections became popular in 1960s but were
abandoned later due to the multiple complications. In 1980s bovine collagen was introduced for lip injections. It became very popular but required an allergy testing and didn’t
last very long time.
Currently dermal fillers like Restylane and Juvederm became popular on the cosmetic market for lip enhancement. These are the products of Hyaluronic
acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body. Hyaluronic acid is completely biocompatible with our tissue and doesn’t require any allergic
testing. The results from Resylane and Juvederm treatment can last from 6 to 9 months. In some cases a small amount of Botox can be
injected into the lips to plump them up and to diminish the “smoker’s lines”.
There is a very fine line between medicine and art in the lip reshaping and enhancement procedure. The injector has to take into consideration the age of the client, her aesthetic preferences,
skin type, the proportion in between the upper and the lower lip and the rest of the face. It is very important to use digital photographs before and after the procedure. At Vita we will help
you to decide which treatment is best and the safest for you. Call today for your free consultation.

F.A.Q.s (Con't)
What should I do prior to the treatment? - Aspirin, Vitamin E supplements, Ibuprofen or St. John’s Wort should be avoided for few days prior to the procedure to avoid bruising. We recommend that you don’t have the
injections done for at least 2 weeks before a big event. A follow up visit will be arranged in 1-2 weeks after the procedure to determine if any touch ups are necessary.
Is the injection painful? Numbing is used to make the procedure painless. Ice packs are used after the procedure to decrease further swelling and bruises.
